The Birthplace of Country Music Museum, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, tells the story of the 1927 Bristol Sessions recordings, explores how developing sound technology shaped their success, and highlights how this rich musical heritage lives on in today's music. The museum features a variety of artifacts, educational programs, theater experiences, and interactive displays relating to the Bristol Sessions and the continuing impact of Bristol on country music.

The 1927 Bristol Sessions featured the first recordings of both Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family. Jimmie Rodgers is now considered the "Father of Country Music" and was the first person inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 1998, the United States Congress designated Bristol TN/VA as the "Birthplace of Country Music."

Rene Rodgers is the head curator at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum. She earned her BA in art history from The College of William and Mary and her MA and PhD in Roman Archaeology from the University of Durham. Rene joined the Birthplace of Country Music in 2012 as a member of the content team working on the exhibit script and design for the museum's permanent exhibits. She then came on as a permanent member of the staff in 2014.
